WESTERN Victoria MP Simon Ramsay will lead by example when he gears up for Saturday’s People’s Race as part of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.
“I’ll be riding to promote the importance of physical exercise and to help showcase the Geelong region’s safe cycling trails through beautiful hinterlands and vibrant coastal roads,” he said.
“It is appropriate the theme for this year’s ride is The Journey, as this event could be a new chapter for many cyclists like Cadel Evans who view 2017 as a new phase in their life.
“I’m thrilled to represent the Parliament of Victoria in an event that brings an amazing economic benefit to Geelong and a great deal of tourism interest.
“With more than 140 countries watching on TV, there isn’t a better opportunity to promote the amazing natural features of this region.
“I’ve been training for over a month and I’m looking forward to enjoying the ride and reaching the finish line, regardless of my position.
“It’s also a great opportunity to check the condition of roads, as the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Rural and Regional Transport, to see where we can improve co-existence between cyclists and motorists.”
