Liberal Member for Western Victoria, Simon Ramsay yesterday raised a questioned in Parliament to the Minister for Mental Health, Martin Foley, as to whether he would commit $600,000 of capital funding for a rehabilitation centre in Warrnambool.
The $600,000 of capital funding will help to build a 20-bed alcohol and other drug rehabilitation centre in Warrnambool, following calls for more rehabilitation beds in the south coast region.
“With over 600 clients seeking help for alcohol and other drug abuse, there is a real and urgent need for these beds for the Great South Coast region,” said Mr Ramsay.
Following a $600,000 pledge from the Western Region and other Drug Centre, the centre will also be partially funded by the local community.
“Through a fantastic fundraising effort, the local community has raised $500,000 for the 20-bed rehabilitation centre.”
South West MP, Roma Britnell, has been a strong advocate for funding for more rehabilitation beds, having worked closely with the Western Region Alcohol and other Drug Centre.
“With a real and urgent need for these beds in the South West region, I congratulate Ms Britnell for her excellent work in this area,” Mr Ramsay said.
