MEMBER for Western Victoria Simon Ramsay has called on the Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford to do everything possible to encourage Murray Goulburn to build its new milk powder facility at Koroit.
The dairy giant is working on a plan to build its new infant formula plant at Laverton, but Mr Ramsay said it was imperative for jobs to be retained in south-west Victoria.
“Due to the existing plant in Koroit, Murray Goulburn should consider the benefits of consolidating its infrastructure in the south-west,” he said.
“The State Government has a role to help facilitate companies that wish to expand in regional areas and is a key cornerstone to the decentralisation policy of the Coalition.
“We must do everything we can to maintain and create new jobs in regional Victoria.”
Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, Mr Ramsay asked Ms Pulford to act fast rather than miss the opportunity of creating jobs for regional Victoria.
“What is the Regional Development Victoria doing, with the ministerial office, to encourage Murray Goulburn to commit to placing its new milk powder facility at Koroit, adjacent to the current facility?” he said.
“This would provide very important jobs in regional Victoria.”
