Andrews Has Something to Hide Says Ramsay

Liberal Member for Western Victoria, Simon Ramsay, expressed disgust with the Andrews Government for turning a blind eye to leaked reports from the Interim Report on Gender Diversity and Inclusion.

The report highlights a culture of workplace bullying and sexual harassment in the fire services industry.

This follows Ramsay’s disappointment that despite a request for the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission report to be given to the Fire Services Bill committee, it was refused.

The refusal comes from the United Firefighters Union (UFU) who has been to the Supreme Court, doing its best to ensure the report does not see the light of day.

“The fact that Premier Daniel Andrews is still defending the deplorable actions of the UFU to challenge the validity of the Victorian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Report in sexism in the MFB and CFA is outrageous.”

The Gender Diversity and Inclusion report, authored by Prof Caroline Taylor revealed that 97 per cent of the 555 CFA staff surveyed said they had experienced or witnessed harassment and bullying.

“This wouldn’t be the first time Daniel Andrews put the government at risk to protect the United Firefighters Union.

“As Victoria prepares for a significant fire season the Andrews Government is ducking and weaving in bringing forward its Fire Services Restructure Bill into the Legislative Council”.

Adding to more misery to our firefighters in Fire Action Week, the Andrews Government is in total denial of the many complaints from staff and firefighters that bullying, sexual harassment and sexual assaults are running rampant in the MFB and CFA.

“Again we see the UFU being complicit in trying to cover up a lot of the accusations in relation to sexual harassment.”

Following an inquiry by the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, the Andrews government is refusing to make the information available.

“The inquiry has been blocked in the Supreme Court by the union, and that only goes to show that they have something to hide,” said Mr Ramsay.

“With Andrews continuously placing the government at risk it raises the question, what has Peter Marshall got on Daniel Andrews?”
